iGasm

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

We are in an age where pretty much any nifty little gadget that is computer related you just put an “i” in front of it, and instantly it’s cool.

I guess we can thank Apple for this with their long time inventions such as, iMac, iPod + iTunes and newly yet-to-be-released iPhone (which is an awesome toy, despite never seeing it).

So along with these “i” products, many of the companies that produce accessories for these products (namely the iPod), have also got onto the “i” bandwagon. Such as the iTrip.

But here’s one which is a little more controversial.

I’m an RSS subscriber to The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TAUW), and recently they made a post about Apple not being terribly happy with the ad campaign released by Ann Summers.

It just takes the “i” to a whole new level. Nothing is safe now.

Made me smile anyway.

Heroes Final

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

As you may or may not know, I am a little obsessed with the popular show Heroes. I mean, it’s AWESOME!

But now, it’s all over for a season! Bah!! I am spewing! It sooo did not end as well as I thought it would.

Screenshot - Heroes Episode 23

So now I just have to wait for the next season to start. Bah! I can’t wait that long. I think I will have to do a Heroes marathon soon. Re-watch all 23 episodes start to finish. That should take just over 17 hours all up. Anyone up for it?

<Spoilers, don’t read if you haven’t seen it>

The End Of The World

Monday, May 21st, 2007

This flash animation is an oldie but a goodie. Today at work (clearly making good use of my time) I just felt like watching this animation, despite seeing it so many times before.

“The End Of The World” I can’t unfortunately credit to anyone because I have no idea who the creator is. Whoever they are though, they are a fucking genius!

So, here it is, it takes a bit to load, but is worth the wait. Enjoy!

Casino Royale

Casino Royale PosterLast night I watched (for the second time) Casino Royale.

I LOVE that movie. It is just soooo awesome.

Bond in his beginnings. It’s raw, back to basics. Most noticably he is human. He gets scratched and hurt, and the next scene he is still cut and bruised from the escapade a few nights earlier.

I also love it how he loses his ‘cool’ when he loses the poker game. Just cracks the shits because he fucked up. There is also a big emphasis on how his ego is so huge that it gets in the way of his professionalism and causes problems. Which is cool to watch.

Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Sean Connery, and reflects more about who the original Bond really was.

I am also a big fan of the LACK of gadgets. The movie is actually set slightly in the future from today with the use of technologies which aren’t commonly available yet, such as Blu-Ray recorders and nifty GPS phones. Sony has careful product placement throughout the entire film, giving us an insight to what technologies we can expect to be readily available in the next few years.

I am also impressed with the way Bond chose his mission over the girl and actually (stupidly) left the hottest girl ever hanging as he went to go kill a bunch of people.

Casino Royale - Daniel Craig and Caterina Murino

YOU IDIOT!! Caterina Murino is, to say the least, incredible. Especially in that dress she was wearing, and the Italian accent… wow.

The main bond girl, Vesper Lynd, played by Eva Green, is also absolutely gorgeous. She is also a nice change from the more typical Bond girls, with freckles and a very pale complexion.

In the end we see how Bond learns not to trust anyone, and that his ego does need taming

Very much worth a watch - especially on a huge 42″ Panasonic Plasma and Krix/Onkyo $5k sound system HOO-RAH!!

Vesper Lynd: Am I going to have a problem with you, Mr. Bond?
James Bond: No, don’t worry, you’re not my type.
Vesper Lynd: Smart?
James Bond: Single.

Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight

Linkin Park - Minutes to MidnightLast night I acquired Linkin Park’s new album, ‘Minutes to Midnight‘.

Now I’ve been a fan of Linkin Park since ‘Hybrid Theory‘ was released way back in 2000. When they came out, it was something a bit fresh and new. You could play the album from start to finish and love every song (well, I could).

Meteora‘ (2003) was released, and it was good. It had gone a bit more commercial which I wasn’t a fan of, I preferred the raw sound of their previous album (not including the re-mix albums).

Now ‘Minutes to Midnight’ is released, and it’s no breath of fresh air. In fact, it’s really not all that much to get hyped up over. The only tracks that I find that are really worth a listen are -

  • ‘Given Up’, (Track 3) because it is a bit heavier and sounds like they forgot to put it on their first album, so decided to chuck it on this one.
  • ‘Bleed It Out’, (Track 5) brings back the rapping style which they haven’t used much, and is just a more upbeat song, although it almost sounds as if they have sped it up in post-production.
  • ‘Shadow Of The Day’, (Track 6) isn’t a bad track. But it is almost a chick song. Slow paced with melodic tunes and soft singing.
  • and ‘What I’ve Done’ (Track 7) which is getting played on the radio a fair bit. It is a good track, but certainly not good enough to be rated 5 stars in iTunes.

A few other tracks such as ‘Leave Out All The Rest’ and ‘Valentine’s Day’ are also rather commercial and slower paced songs that I guess would appeal to all those 15 year old emo chicks about.

All in all, I much preferred their earlier albums, but a band must evolve. It’s unfortunate that it’s at the expense of many of their fan’s tastes.

Go-Kart Grand Prix

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

So I just got back from Go Karting!! I’m hell pumped, the adrenaline is flowing, and my arms are hurting.

It was AWESOME!

The Drivers - Team Harvey Norman

So it was a Grand Prix, 2 drivers per team, 90 laps to complete. l5 laps per change over. And far out, after 15 laps, you are SORE. Great fun though.

Adam was my team mate, and we came in second, only a few seconds behind the aggressive Michael and Karl. I didn’t do too bad considering I started at the back of the grid and had to work my way up. When I was on the track I was competing mainly with Michael and Shannon, those guys were quick as. All our lap times were only differentiating by milliseconds.

Rhys passing along the inside

Our team managed to score the fastest lap of the race at 30.07 (I think). Not sure if it was Adam or myself. I have a feeling it could have been me, but I really don’t know.

It’s almost too much fun really. Yet at the same time (if you’re competitive) you’re gritting your teeth and muscling the kart around trying to shave off precious seconds. I reckon I was completely tense all over the entire time I was out there. Great workout!

So now after writing this the adrenaline has slowed, and I can actually feel my hands. Keep it cool peoples!

PS. This night was put on thanks to Flexirent, and you should all use their product because it’s good!

Hey hey! It’s Rhys and he’s back online!

For those of you that haven’t seen this before. This is just your standard blog. Like the millions that are around, and mine is no different really. So why read it? I dunno, I don’t really care. I just like to type shit out and tell the odd stories that happen in my day-to-day life.

I also have plans to develop part of the site into a portfolio for me to display my creative works. That will hopefully be done in a week or so… but who knows!

Anyway, happy reading!
